A Public Accounts Committee report on government compensation schemes prompted a response from the Independent Windrush Commissioner on 9 September 2026.
The committee examined experiences across seven schemes, including the Windrush Compensation Scheme. The evidence raised concerns about distressing application processes, complex evidence requirements and the need for funded independent legal support.
These findings and survey figures concern more than one compensation scheme. They should not be presented as statistics about Windrush claimants alone.
