Windrush Justice News is an independent, victim-led news publication and historical archive. It exists because the history of the Windrush scandal must be recorded by the people who lived through it, not only by the institutions responsible for it.
The Hostile Environment has affected people’s homes, jobs, families, status and sense of belonging. The consequences did not end when the scandal first made the headlines. This publication documents those continuing experiences alongside government decisions, investigations, evidence and public reporting.
What this publication covers
- Windrush news: developments affecting victims and their families, with sources and dates.
- Compensation and the Home Office: official announcements, evidence, scheme decisions and accounts of people’s experiences of the process.
- Victims’ testimony: first-hand stories shared for editorial consideration, with privacy and consent taken seriously.
- Historical records: reporting, interviews and documents preserved in a searchable public archive.
- Video journalism: recorded interviews, reports and relevant video evidence.
The voices at the centre
This is journalism shaped by lived experience. Victims and families can contribute their own accounts, challenge omissions and help build a record that future generations can consult. No single account is presented as speaking for every Windrush victim.
Contributions are not published automatically. The editorial team reviews material, checks claims that require verification and considers requests for anonymity. The purpose is accurate reporting, a reliable archive and a platform where victims remain central to their own history.
Editorial independence
Windrush Justice News is not part of the Home Office, the Windrush Compensation Scheme or the office of the Windrush Commissioner. Statements by public authorities are identified as such, not presented as the final word on victims’ experiences.
